The traditional 21 Gun Salute fired by three volleys from the seven-person rifle squad from Fort Irwin, California, mark the end of the Veterans Day ceremony at Mountain View Memorial Park, Nov. 11. According to tradition, the 21 Gun Salute was intended to show participants had emptied their weapons of ammunition thereby rendering them harmless as a sign of their peaceful intentions and a show of respect to the departed veteran.
