Since 2014, the Chief of Staff position at U.S. Army Europe has been filled by a German officer. At the 2019 Germany-U.S. Forces in Europe Consultation held Nov. 7-8 in Wiesbaden, two previous and the current Chief of Staff were present. Maj. Gen. Kai Rohrschneider (left) was the chief of staff from 2017-2018 and now serves as NATO’s Joint Support and Enabling Command Chief of Staff in Ulm, Germany. Lt. Gen. Markus Laubenthal (center) was the very first German officer to serve as U.S. Army Europe's chief of staff and did so from 2014-2017. Lt. Gen. Laubenthal is currently the Director-General for Forces Policy with the German Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn, Germany. Brig. Gen.
