U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Zachary Goraczkowski, Air Force Central Command (AFCENT) pavement evaluation team member, center, learns how to operate a generator on loan from U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 3 Alexander Zivic from the 859th Engineer Company, Mississippi National Guard at Q – West, Iraq, Nov. 29, 2019. The airfield pavement evaluation team from AFCENT travels across theater to evaluate airfields utilized by U.S. forces using a pavement condition index evaluation and a dynamic cone penetrometer to determine the strength of the pavement and soil underneath the runway. The results from their evaluation gives mission planners insight on the runway’s condition, what type of aircraft it can support and the longevity of the pavement. (U.S. Army Reserve photo by Sgt.
