Florida National Guard Senior Army Advisor Col. David Rodgers holds a package of soil from the Le Mans region of France, where Florida National Guard soldiers fought during World War I. Rodgers has initiated a project to consecrate the parade field in front of the historic St. Francis Barracks in St. Augustine, Fla., with soil from battlefields around the world where the Florida National Guard has fought. Also pictured are soil samples from Kuwait, Japan, Philippines and Mexico. Through the project he hopes to collect soil samples from nine wars and 15 locations across the globe.
