U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Kristen Floyd, 721st Force Support Squadron fitness apprentice, ignites a cooking heater from a single pallet expeditionary kitchen during Exercise Operation Varsity 19-04 at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, Dec. 11, 2019. A SPEK is a field kitchen designed be quickly assembled and support 550 personnel daily with three hot meals. Scenarios where a SPEK could be useful are in a remote location, during beddown of initial forces or when a permanent kitchen is damamged or cannot be accessed due to operations.
