The Marines of 1st Marine Regiment render honors to Maj. Gen. Ronald Bailey, the commanding general of 1st Marine Division, during a change-of-command ceremony at Camp Horno, June 8. Colonel Peter Baumgarten, coming from U.S. Northern Command, relieved Col. David Furness. Furness will be transferring to Quantico, Va., to begin his next assignment as the director of Expeditionary Warfare School. In September of 2010, Furness led 1st Marines forward to Afghanistan and commanded Regimental Combat Team 1 throughout their yearlong deployment.
