Maj. Gen. Gordon L. Ellis, 38th Infantry Division commanding general from Lake Waynoka, Ohio, speaks to his fellow National Guardsmen during a ceremony celebrating the National Guard's 383rd birthday, Friday, Dec. 13, 2019, at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. “As you move forward into today, we have been involved in every major combat operation in the Middle East. Your presence here today is a part of the heritage of the National Guard. You're writing our history, today. And you will be a part in the future, that future National Guardsmen will talk about and will recall. Because your service today is in concert with a long, unbroken line of stories. We are always there; we are always relevant. When we are not in uniform, we are the fabric and the strength of the nation by executing our civilian jobs. When we are called, we respond. We go wherever is needed, and we render whatever service is required. So wherever the need takes us, the National Guard is there. And we will be there in the future,” said Ellis in his speech to his troops.
