NORFOLK (Dec. 17, 2019) Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Equipment) 1st Class Christopher Carpenter, from Farmont, West Virginia, assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford's (CVN 78) air department, uses a heat gun to create a watertight seal on an electrical wire to a combat rated thrust light on Ford's flight deck. A combat rated thrust light is located on the sides of Ford's Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) to indicate to pilots when to engage their thrust.
