HAMPTON, Va. (Dec. 14, 2019) - Senior Chief Aviation Machinist’s Mate Charles Brass, a Sailor assigned to the aircraft intermediate maintenance department aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), observes a moment of silence prior to laying a wreath for a Wreaths Across America event at Hampton National Cemetery. Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, wreath-laying ceremonies are held at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,100 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. George Washington is undergoing refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a nearly four-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repairs, upgrades, and modernization.
