Lieutenant Col. Walker Field (left), the commanding officer of 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division and Col. Brad Hall (right) the commanding officer of the regiment, approach the unit’s color guard during the battalion’s deactivation ceremony June 1. The artillery battalion, being closed due to a drawdown of forces, has a long and proud history with 12 unit honors that stream from the battalion flag earned during more than eight wars and combat engagements the battalion has been involved in since their activation in 1941.
