200111-M-IR130-1023 SUEZ CANAL (Jan. 11, 2020) U.S. Marine Corps Pfc. Elias Colletti, an anti-tank missileman with Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, scans the shore using an AN/PAS-28 medium-range thermal biocular during a transit through the Suez Canal aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) Jan. 11, 2020. Bataan is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
