JEBEL ALI, United Arab Emirates (Dec. 28, 2019) Fire Controlman (Aegis) 2nd Class Nathan Lewis measures the distance from the pier with a laser range finder while the guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) departs Jebel Ali, UAE, following a scheduled port visit. The Normandy is part of the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group and is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
