200118-N-PG340-1003 YAP, Federated States of Micronesia (Jan. 18, 2020) Chief Construction Electrician Kevin Appleby (left) and Builder 3rd Class Nathan Kent, both deployed with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5’s Detail Yap, visit one of the numerous World War II historical sites across Yap. This Hellcat flew from USS Enterprise (CV-6) and was shot down by Japanese forces while protecting B-24 bombers over Yap in 1944. NMCB-5 is deployed across the Indo-Pacific region conducting high-quality construction to support U.S. and partner nations to strengthen partnerships, deter aggression, and enable expeditionary logistics and naval power projection.
