Capt. Gene Hindman (right) commander of Company C, 4th Battalion, 118th Infantry Regiment, confers with Staff Sgt. Calvin James (left) a 4th Battalion soldier who is playing an embassy liaison in an embassy defense and evacuation exercise at Range 5 near Camp Buehring, Kuwait, May 29. Company C has just conducted an air assault mission, and James, of Florence, S.C., is giving Hindman, of Charleston, S.C., a report on the situation at the simulated embassy before Hindman leads his company there to defend it. Spc. Robert Andrews, who is from Erie, Pa. and part of the company's security element, can be seen to Hindman's right. James belongs to Company A of the 4th Battalion, which conducted the same exercise at Range 5 three days before. During the exercise, the infantry companies also coordinated with the 108th Assault Helicopter Battalion for rapid resupply and with Company C, 1st General Support Aviation Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment to evacuate simulated wounded. The 4th Battalion belongs the South Carolina Army National Guard, and assumed security-force operations in Northern Kuwait in April.
