WIESBADEN, Germany - U.S. Army Europe hosted approximately 170 U.S. Army
Foreign Area Officers and distinguished visitors for the inaugural European
FAO Symposium here last week.
The symposium provided participants the opportunity to re-focus on U.S. Army
priorities and initiatives, both globally and specific to Europe.
Participants took part in panel discussions with senior leaders and subject
matter experts to share intellectual and academic perspectives on what is
happening in Europe. Some of the topics discussed included U.S. policy
towards Europe, European perspectives on U.S. policy and ways FAOs can
better accomplish their missions.
The symposium also provided a rare opportunity for U.S. Army FAOs to come
together to network. Most of the participants work in isolated billets at
embassies around the world, so they rarely have the opportunity to interact
in person.
Lt. Gen. Charles Hooper, the director of the Defense Security Cooperation
Agency, and Lt. Gen. Christopher Cavoli, U.S. Army Europe Commanding
General, co-hosted the symposium.
