NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (Feb. 1, 2020) Aviation Support Equipment Technician 2nd Class Anthony Garrett, left, Damage Controlman 3rd Class Andrew Barrett, middle, and Machinery Repairman Fireman Frederick Zappone, assigned to the in-port emergency team aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73), secure a steel-type shoring to a box patch on the bulkhead and to the ladderwell during a flooding drill. George Washington is undergoing refueling complex overhaul (RCOH) at Newport News Shipyard. RCOH is a nearly four-year project performed only once during a carrier’s 50-year service life that includes refueling the ship’s two nuclear reactors, as well as significant repairs, upgrades, and modernization.
