Brian Shiroyama, President of the Friends and Family of Nisei Veterans, speaks about the samurai-style sword of Lt. Col. Richard Sakakida, a Japanese American U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps agent who served in the U.S. Army during World War II. The sword was donated by Shiroyama on behalf of the the Sakakida family. The sword was unveiled by Command Historian Cameron Binkley and Defense Language Institute Commandant Col. Gary Hausman Jan. 28 as part of an exhibit focusing on World War II translators, now on permanent display at the Presidio of Monterey’s Aiso Library.
