Blue Angels 1, 2, 3 and 4 - four of seven F/A-18 Hornet U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Team aircraft fly in formation over Baltimore Harbor in the famous Diamond Formation during a performance before a crowd of 75,000 people who watched the show during the city’s Star Spangled Sailabration, commemorating the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the writing of the national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner." Naval vessels from the United States and other maritime nations are commemorating the Bicentennial. The F/A-18 Hornet aircraft and other aircraft types in the Navy and Marine Corps inventory are a component of the assets that enable the Navy’s ability to operate forward and ensure freedom of the seas for commerce, travel and basic human rights, which is a fundamental mission of the U.S. Navy, Marines and Coast Guard.
