Chief Hospital Corpsman Michael Couch, assigned to the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Washington (SSN 787), embraces his daughter upon returning from deployment at Naval Station Norfolk, Feb. 11, 2020. “While it’s a good feeling to know we accomplished the mission at sea as ordered, I feel that accomplishment even more when I greet my family,” said Couch. Washington deployed to U.S. European Command’s area of responsibility where it executed the chief of naval operations’ maritime strategy by supporting national security interests and maritime security operations.
