CAMP HANSEN, Okinawa, Japan (Feb. 3, 2020) Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Puente-Krummey, a corpsman with Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), from Green-Bay, Wisconsin, conducts a Valkyrie blood transfusion during a simulated mechanized raid on Feb. 3, 2020, Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan. Valkyrie blood transfusions are utilized when a massive hemorrhage occurs in the field and the patient requires a large amount of blood. The America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
