200217-N-GR168-1050 ARABIAN GULF (Feb. 17, 2020) Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Robert Vandernakker, assigned to the amphibious transport dock ship USS New York (LPD 21), blows a whistle to signal the New York is prepared to fire shot lines to the dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS William McLean (T-AKE 12) during a replenishment-at-sea. New York, with the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group and with embarked 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
