200201-M-IR130-1043 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Feb. 1, 2020) U.S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harriers assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 365, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), fly over the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5) beside a Dassault Mirage 2000-5 fighter interceptor assigned to French Air Force Squadron 03/011. Bataan Amphibious Ready Group, with embarked 26th MEU, is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
