Capt. Edward Cashman makes his final remarks as Commander, Destroyer Squadron 50, during his change of command ceremony, June 20. Under Cashman's command, DESRON 50 successfully conducted security missions in the Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean and Somali Basin. DESRON 50 conducts maritime security operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility, developing security in the maritime environment to promote stability and global prosperity. Their operations complement the counterterrorism and security efforts of regional nations and seek to disrupt violent extremists' use of the maritime environment.
