200215-M-MV109-2074 U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Feb. 15, 2020) U.S. Marine Corps staff non-commissioned officers (SNCO) assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) serve ice cream to service members alongside U.S. Navy petty officer first classes assigned to the amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD 21) during an ice cream social hosted by the Petty Officer and SNCO Association aboard the New York Feb. 15, 2020. New York, with embarked 26th MEU, is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
