U.S. Marine Corps Veronika Gottschalk, an intelligence specialist with Headquarters Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, undergoes the Marine Corps Water Survival School screener on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, March 12, 2020. “I am excited to have the opportunity to earn the secondary MOS 0918, a Marine Corps Instructor of Water Survival (MCIWS),” said Gottschalk, a native of Minster, Ohio. “The information I retain from this course will be passed down to my Marines and other Marines that want to learn more about aquatic realm of the Marine Corps, especially since the Commandant is shifting the focus to the INDOPACOM region.” MCIWS training is critical in maintaining Marines’ ability to be amphibious by nature and strengthens them physically and mentally, inside and outside of water.
