Adm. Marco Antonio Correa Guimaraes, Commandant of the Brazilian Marine Corps tours the inside of an Assault Amphibious Vehicle at Courthouse Bay, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., June 27. This visit supported U.S. Marine Corps efforts to strengthen and increase its partnership with the Brazilian Marine Corps and United States Southern Command guidance to expand security cooperation with Brazil. The Brazilian military delegation flew in a MV-22B Osprey, observed an assault amphibious vehicle demonstration and a static display of Marine capabilities and equipment. This official tour was by personal invitation from U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Gen. John Croley, commanding general of U.S. Marine Corps Forces South. Brazil has the second largest Marine Corps in South America. In addition to their stop at Camp Lejeune, Guimaraes and his delegation visited other U.S. military bases on the East Coast.
