March is Women’s History Month. In addition, the Department of Defense is commemorating the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. During World War II, military nurses became an indispensable component of battlefield medical care. It was their grit, determination, sacrifice, and commitment to duty and excellence that proved women can do the job — no matter how dangerous or difficult that job may be. Dozens of nurses spent several years as prisoners of war in the Philippines. Here, Army Nurses are seen in Santo Tomas Internment Camp, 1943. Picture taken by Japanese.
