CENTRAL TRAINING AREA, Okinawa, Japan (March 27, 2020) Marines with Alpha Company, Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), and Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), 31st MEU, attach a fuel line from an MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft with VMM-265 (Rein), 31st MEU, to an assault amphibious vehicle during a forward arming and refueling point (FARP) exercise. The exercise served as a proof of concept for using assault amphibious vehicles to transport refueling equipment and independently support a FARP when conducting split operations. The America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
