SAGAMI BAY (April 2, 2020) Sgt. Garrett Funk, an intelligence Marine with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and Cape Coral, Florida, native, is presented a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal by Col. Robert Brodie, commanding officer of the 31st MEU, aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). The Marines of the 31st MEU’s intelligence community were recognized for their continuous efforts while forward-deployed aboard the America. America, flagship of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
