U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Minda Reed (right) and Lt. Col. Reed and Compardo are both activated as part of the State Unified Area Command-North (SUAC-N) group, which consists of approximately 22 Airmen from the 183d Wing, based in Springfield, Ill., the 126th Air Refueling Wing, based at Scott Air Force Base, and the 182nd Airlift Wing, based in Peoria, Ill., along with 2 soldiers from the Joint Force Headquarters, also based in Springfield, Ill. The SUAC-N is assigned as a planning coordination cell assisting the state’s response to COVID-19 in the Chicagoland and outlaying areas by coordinating with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency along with other state agencies. Part of this group is tasked with ensuring that the Alternate Care Facilities(ACF) for COVID-19 patients with mild symptoms who do not require intensive care in the Chicago area are ready and operational.
