PHILIPPINE SEA (April 15, 2020) Marines with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) hold up Navy Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist (ESWS) pins awarded to them for completing ESWS training aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). ESWS qualification signifies that a Sailor or Marine has achieved a level of proficiency in surface ships and is competent in engineering plant capabilities, navigational equipment, deck equipment, air defense, interface and control links, information operations and combat systems and command, control, communications, computers and intelligence. America, flagship of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
