SOUTH CHINA SEA (April 21, 2020) Rear Adm. Fred Kacher, commander of Expeditionary Strike Group (ESG) 7, gives a challenge coin to Lance Cpl. John Ariel Navarro, an administration specialist with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and native of Bremerton, Washington, aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). Navarro was born in Yigo, Guam, before immigrating to Washington, where he attended Graham Kapowsin High School before enlisting in the Marine Corps out of Puyallup, Washington, following his graduation in 2018. America, flagship of the America ESG, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
