Corporal Christopher K. Wood, heavy equipment mechanic, 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, is the sole heavy equipment mechanic on Patrol Base Gherdai, fixes a bulldozer so the combat engineers can continue their mission during Operation Stronghold. Wood, a 30-year-old Jackson, Mich., native, hopes to one day design a more fuel-efficient diesel engine.
