200504-N-QV265-1068 PHILIPPINE SEA (May 4, 2020) - U.S. 7th Fleet flagship, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19) conducts a Close-in Weapon System (CIWS) live fire test. CIWS is a point-defense weapon system for detecting and destroying short range incoming missiles and enemy aircraft which have penetrated outer defenses. Blue Ridge is the oldest operational ship in the Navy and, as 7th Fleet command ship, actively works to foster relationships with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
