Oklahoma Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Michael Thompson, the adjutant general for Oklahoma, commends Oklahoma Air National Guardsmen from the 137th Special Operations Wing for their work at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City while he and other Oklahoma National Guard leaders toured the food bank, April 30, 2020. The Guardsmen were activated by the Governor, Kevin Stitt, to help with the up to 60 percent state-wide increase in need for food assistance due to COVID-19 and falling oil prices. The Air Guardsmen, who are part of the State’s whole-of-government response to the pandemic, are 25 of the 50 who were activated to help in food banks; the other 25 are working at the Regional Food Bank for Eastern Oklahoma in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
