Army Col. Alfred a. Pantano, Jr. accepted command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineer District during a change of command ceremony, July 8, at the Afghanistan Engineer District in Kabul, Afghanistan. Pantano takes command of the AED from Army Col. Christopher W. Martin.
After the invocation and presentation of colors, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and U.S. national anthems were played. Honoring tradition, a guidon featuring the unit's colors was passed from Martin to Pantano through Maj. Gen. Michael Eyre Cone, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Transatlantic Division , to symbolize the change of command.
Following the passing of the guidon, Eyre spoke about the accomplishments of the AED in Martin's tenure.
