Quartermaster 3rd Class Joshua Rozier hauls up a "Day Shape" as the amphibious dock-landing ship USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44) prepares to anchor. Day Shapes are used to communicate the status of a ships condition in the water in lieu of navigational light during daylight hours. Gunston Hall is part of the Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group with the embarked 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and is deployed supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
