Retired Army Col. Dawn Flynn, who voluntarily returned to active duty to help during the COVID-19 pandemic response, shares a “selfie” prior to beginning her shift at the Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., May 12, 2020. Flynn, along with about 400 other retirees, were selected to return to duty to assist in the response to COVID-19 because of their specific skillset and background. During her more than 28 year military career, Flynn served in the Army nurse corps as a critical care nurse. Now, she is working in the step down care unit which treats military-related patients who are not critical enough for intensive care unit, but not well enough for the regular floor.
