Capt. Nathaniel H. Guthrie is an aviation officer with the 11th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade. He currently flies the HH-60M Black Hawk helicopter and is also qualified in the AH-64D Apache and C-12 Huron.
Guthrie says he joined the military for two reasons: (1) out of a sense of service and family tradition and (2) because of the many opportunities the Army provides.
"My grandfather served in the Pacific Theater in World War II, and I felt compelled to continue the tradition and be a part of something larger than myself," he said. "Also, it's difficult to find a profession where you can experience great personal and professional growth while helping others at the same time."
For those considering the U.S. Army Reserve, he says, "The Army Reserve is a great option for those that want to serve their country but not in a full-time status. It provides a unique opportunity to stay close to home and gain critical skills that translate directly to the civilian job market. It's not easy and can be very demanding, but it's also highly rewarding."
We make the difference, rise above!
