The official party salutes during the playing of the national anthem during the transfer of authority ceremony. South Carolina Army National Guard's 678th Air Defense Artillery Brigade conducted a transfer of authority with the Florida National Guard's 164th ADA in a ceremony within COVID-19 guidelines June 25 on Katterbach Kaserne. The 678th ADA serves as the mission command element for active duty air defense units throughout Europe under the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command and to ensure continuity of operations and continuous mission command for assigned units throughout the European theater. The unit will conduct multinational training events with allied and partner militaries and support real-world missions as needed. The rotational ADA brigade headquarters deployment of ready, combat-credible U.S. forces in support of the European Deterrence Initiative is evidence of the strong and unremitting U.S. commitment to NATO and Europe. Through bilateral, joint and multinational training, the air defense mission command element builds readiness, increases interoperability and enhances the bond between ally and partner militaries. The 164th ADA, Florida Army National Guard, mobilized to Germany in September 2019.
