SAN DIEGO (July 16, 2020) Damage Controlman 2nd Class Jeffrey Garvin, from Belmont, Michigan, poses for an environmental portrait near the stern of the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6). Garvin was the first responder as fire marshal when the first report of black smoke was called away aboard the ship on the morning of July 12. Since then, he has been on site every day leading fire teams combating the fire and performing ship investigations. The fire was called away aboard the ship while it was moored pier side at Naval Base San Diego. Base and shipboard firefighters responded to the fire. Bonhomme Richard is going through a maintenance availability, which began in 2018. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Kevin C. Leitner)
