On July 16, 2020, U.S. Army Garrison Fort Riley hosted a change of command ceremony between Col. Stephen Shrader and Col. William B. McKannay.
McKannay passes the garrison colors to Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy Speichert, garrison Command Sgt. Major. The passing of the colors is the symbolic first official action of a new commander. Historically, the command sergeant major serves as the keeper of the colors.
