NAVAL BASE SAN DIEGO (July 17, 2020) Capt. G.S. Thoroman, right, commanding officer of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) points out fire damage from the pier for the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Mike M. Gilday during a visit to the ship to address the crew and assess the damage in the aftermath of the recent fire. On the morning of July 12, a fire was called away aboard the ship while it was moored pier side at Naval Base San Diego. Base, federal and shipboard firefighters responded to the fire.
