Pictured is a turtle species native to North Carolina, found at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, June 15, 2020. Turtles live in hardwood forests, grasslands, marshes, riverbeds, meadows, and more. Many species of turtle are endangered. According to the IUCN, 129 of approximately 300 species of turtle and tortoise on Earth today are either vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered.
