The Rhode Island National Guard’s 56th Troop Command holds a memorial in honor of Sgt. Maj. Christopher L. Callan, the Senior Operations NCO for the HHD, 56TC, July, 28, 2020, at Camp Fogarty, East Greenwich, R.I. Callan was promoted to the rank of Sgt. Maj. during the memorial and was posthumously awarded the Legion of Merit medal and the Rhode Island Star, which were presented to members of his family. Callan served in uniform for more than 30 years, including the last 14 years in the Rhode Island Army National Guard and was also a 15 year veteran of the East Greenwich police department.
