Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) researchers chase algal blooms on Lake Okeechobee in order to collect samples and data to use in their effort to mitigate the harmful effects of algae by researching methods to safely remove the harmful blooms from the lake. The Florida Department of Health estimates the economic impact of HABs at $22 million annually, including medical expenses and lost wages.
