CAPE MAY, N.J. - A piping plover runs on the beach at U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, June 3, 2020.
The plover has not nested on the base in almost a decade.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the State of New Jersey manage private, State
and Federal beaches throughout the year to protect the rare beach nesting birds and their chicks until they fledge, particularly to benefit the piping plover that is an endangered federally-listed species.
Strong partnerships on the state, federal, non-profit and university levels continue to lead to effective and efficient species management throughout the state.
