U.S. Marines Corps Staff Sgt. Nicholas Bardsley, an assistant platoon sergeant with 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division (MARDIV), uses a wind meter to gauge the wind and gusts at Ie Shima Training Facility, Okinawa, Japan, July 28, 2020. A Kestrel 5700 Elite Meter with Applied Ballistics is used to accurately gauge wind speed and gusts. These readings will be radioed to the flight crew so the jumpers know when to jump and how to maneuver through the air for a safe and accurate landing. Marines with 3rd Transportation Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group (MLG), and 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion conducted static line and military free falls to maintain their annual qualifications required for parachuting. Bardsley, a native of Fresno, California, is with amphibious reconnaissance platoon, 3rd Recon, 3rd MARDIV. 3rd MLG provides III Marine Expeditionary Force comprehensive logistics and combat service support for operations throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.
