More than 130 New Jersey Army National Guard Soldiers who spent nine months in Somalia defending a remote airfield used by Marines, Airmen, Sailors and Special Operations forces received end-of-tour awards during a ceremony at their home armory in Westfield, N.J., Aug. 8, 2020. The Soldiers of Charlie Troop, 102nd Cavalry Regiment received awards ranging from the Bronze Star to the Army Commendation Medal with Combat device and Army Achievement Medal for their actions during the deployment, which included the Troop repelling a a large scale attack on their base with no U.S. losses.
