The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Caisson Platoon; “The President’s Own” Marine Band; and Marines from the Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C. (8th and I) conduct modified military funeral honors with funeral escort for U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Diego Pongo in Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, August 20, 2020.
Pongo, while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, died March 8, 2020 while supporting Iraqi Security Forces in north central Iraq. U.S. Marine Corps Capt. Moises Navas also died during this incident. Both Marines were assigned to 2nd Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Pongo’s daughter, Avery Pongo, received the U.S. flag from his casket.
